RIT Metals Mon/Wed elective class FAQ

  • Not at all. This course is open to all levels, whether you’ve never have prior crafting or art background. We will guide you through everything from the basics.

  • All equipment and tools are provided in the studio. Each student has $50–$75 in store credit to spend at our in-house metals shop, located in our department. In our metals shop, we carry both sheets and wires in silver, copper, brass, and nickel silver.

You'll also start the semester with a materials bag, which includes essentials like two 6×6 metal sheets, solder, saw blades, drill bits, etc.

  • Projects are designed to be completed within class time (6 hours/week). Open studio hours are also available most days if you’d like extra time to explore your projects.

  • We usually cover 4 projects across 4 topics: cold connections, ring making with basic stone setting, chain making, and a small container. This course also encourages collaboration with your own major. I am happy to discuss your ideas!
